Blogging is now a mainstream phenomena, considering the vast number of people joining the fray every day (75,000 new bloggers per day). Within three years, number of blogs went from an insignificant number to 15 million. The accelarating rate of change in science and technology is not news to anyone. It’s an ongoing subject of discussion. Some see it as the inevitable march humanity to a better future, and others are concerned that it may the vehicle of our destruction. The blog phenomena has a significance beyond the technology. It involves people. It is hard to believe that the society and culture can change this quickly while living in a world where people still hate each and hold grudge for events that occured centuries before. How is it then, we can also move so fast in embracing blogging, making it part of our daily lives?
Blogging, certainly is a social phenomena and is altering the culture. It’s changing how we interact with each other, and whom we interact with. In a sense, it is the embodiment of the promise of the Internet from the early days. People often complain that technology is destroying the social fabric, alienating people from each other. Yet there are also technologies that bring people together. I believe blogging is one of these technologies.I’ve been a “consumer” of the blogosphere for sometime now, benefiting from the experiences and ideas of many people. I hope that I can now become a contributer as well, offering a window into the mazes of my mind. Welcome!
